Detectives Campbell (Greymouth), McMahon, and Mcllvcney (Auckland), Cooney (Thames), Boddnrn (New Plymouth), and Siddclls (Wanganui) have been appointed to the newly-created rank of detective-sergeant. The promotions date from May 1. The rank is not to be conferred unless the detective lias had ten years' service in that branch of the police force, but an exception has been made in the case of Detective Siddclls, for the reason that he held sergeant's rank in the uniform branch for seven years, giving it up to enter the detective branch six years ago. His total service is thirty-three years.
