NAPIER SHOOTING CASE
YOUNG MAN SENT FOR TRIAL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court this morning a young man named J. Young Hannay was charged with having fired a shot from a gun at three others, Robert Colquhoun, John Miller, and Fred. Johnson, and was committed for trial, bail being allowed. The evidence showed that a quarrel took place in one of the main streets on the evening of the 13th inst., and that the three prosecutors afterwards followed accused to his home for the purpose, they stated, of demanding an apology. Accused went into the house, brought out a shot-gun, and discharged both barrels at the other three, who then went in full retreat, thinking Hannay had brought some friends to his assistance. Colquohun was struck by two pellets of shot, but only slightly injured. Hannay says he merely fired to scare the others, when he thought they were at a safe distance.
