Mr. J. Dingle, of Auckland, was in town yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Henry left for Auckland by the Karawa last evening. A Home cable states that the King and Queen will visit Dublin on July Bth next.
Mr. Reginald Skeen, of the Bank of New Zealand, Auckland, left by th» mail train for Palnieraton yesterday morning.
The Hon. R. Mackenzie, Minister of Public Works, is to be invited by th« Clifton County Council to visit the district at as early a date as possible. Mr. J. Farrell, representative in advance of the Miss Katherine Grey Co., who are to produce the great drama, "The Third Degree" in New Plymouth, arrived in New Plymouth last evening. The president of the Australasian Medical Congress, now sitting in Sydney, has received a cablegram from Sir Frederick Treves stating that he was unable to attend the congress owing to ill-health.
The King, in reply to an address from the Convocations of Canterbury aii York, referred to the pleasure he expected in visiting after the coronation the various parts of the United Kingdom and India.—Press cable.
Regarding the announcement made from 'Sydney that Lord Demnan will succeed Earl Dudley in the GovernorGeneralship, it is officially stated that it is impossible yet to make an authoritative announcement, though one is im» pending.—-London cable.
There were 400 guests at a reception given in London by Mr. J. N. Tavorner, Victorian Agent-General, to Sir John Fuller, the new Governor of Victoria, and Lady Fuller. Those present included the Agents-General and their wives, Sir Wm. Hall-Jones/ High Commissioner for New Zealand, and many Victorians.—Prcss cable.
At its meeting yesterday the Ashbufton County Council again elected Mr. Hugo Friedlander as its representative on the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. On Tuesday last Mr. Friedlander resigned the chairmanship of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board in consequence of an action pending against him by Mr. Henry Dayis, the mayor, charging him with contravention of the Act by supplying goods to the board exceeding £lO in value during one financial year. The re-appointment was car* ried by five votes to two.—Press telegram.
