The day was fine but cloudy, and the wicket was good. Macartney and Tozer resumed, and the partnership had yielded 103 before Tozer was bowled by Strieker with a long hop. A couple of overs later Macartney's century appeared. He took 108 minutes to score his 100, and won great applause. Minnctt shaped well, hitting Schwarz for a sixer, but off the next ball he was caught. At 120 Macartney attempted to pull one of Schwarz's curly ones, and was bowled. He had batted for 12S minutes, and hit nine fours in a chanceless innings. Emery again went in for hard hitting, and landed Schwarz on the track, and next over he lifted Sinclair to the top of the ladies' stand. The next over he hit one of Schwarz's again on to the track. Four hundred appeared in 271 minutes. Emery's 50 took 20 minutes. From the start to the luncheon adjournment, 88 minutes, 178 runs were scored. In the first over after the interval, Faulkner bowled Massie, and Harvey was luckily caught by Vogler off Pegler. Emery batted 46 minutes for his 80, and hit seven fours and one six. Pearce and Commaille again opened for South Africa. Commaille scored 1, and was then howled by Macartney. At nine, Pearce played Macartney on.
