THE MACKENZIE RUNS

SOME SENSATIONAL BIDDING. By Telegraph.—Press Asfioeiatloa. Timaru, Last Night. There was a large attendance at the auction of leases of the Mackenzie runs, with homesteads, but only a few bidders besides the present holders, but a few were keen to get a run, and the rentals were run far above the upsets. The present holders retain the runs, save in the case of Glenlyon. The upset and finad bids were: Grampians No. 2, £350, £560; Whale's Back Flat, £240, £370; Sawdon, £lls, £320; Tekapo, £l5O, £335; Richmond, £250, £520; Lilybank, £l3O, £410; Mistake, £3OO, £420; Mount Cook, £l5O, £355; Wolds, No. 2, £3OO, £400; Simon's Pass, £325, £435; Glentanner, £IOO, £375; Glentanner, No. 2, £SO, £110; Glenlyon, £250, £OIO. Sensational bidding occurred in two cases. For the Mount Cook run the second bid by R. Guthrie (an advocute of the sub-division and a member of the informal commission) doubled the upset, but he went no further; and in the ease of Glenlyon, bidding appeared to have ceased by tens at £3BO, when the agent of J. T. Preston came in with fifties and wore down Dixon Bros., the present holders. Two small runs in the Hakataraniea Valley, between 4000 and 5000 acres, for 14 years, fetched big prices, 234 A bringing £235, and 234 B £407. /,
