THE IRON INDUSTRY BONUS
PABAPAKA COMPANY AND THE PREMIER. PREMIER FAVORS AX INCREASE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. On Monday a deputation representing the Parapara Ironsand Co., including Messrs. Duncan Rutherford (chairman), J. J .Dougall (solicitor) and Raymond Hepworth (secretary), waited on the Premier with reference to the granting of an increased bonus to the iron industry. The sum of £20,000 had already been voted for the production 01 20,000 tons of pig iron. The deputation pointed out that this was much less than was offered by the Commonwealth of Australia, and asked for an increase of the bonus. The Premier expressed himself as entirely sympathetic with the request ef the deputation, but pointed out that this was a matter for Parliament to decide. On his return from England he would consider the matter with a view of bringing a Bill before the House to accomplish this. The Hon. R. Mackenzie, Minister for Mines, who was present, also expressed himself as bping in sympathy with the views of the Premier.
