INGLEWOOD NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondent). The first night carnival of the Inglcwood Swimming Club was held in the Municipal Baths on Friday evening, when there waa a fair attendance of the public. The weather was not propitious, a light drizzle falling all the time. The j sports were of a 'high-class order, and I the events were got off in good time, ,no long waits being experienced. Mr. J. Gibbs gave entire satisfaction as starter, and Messrs. Curtis and James | as judges fulfilled their duties in a most j efficient manner. The lighting arrangements were better than those of either I Stratford or New Plymouth clubs, and,j considering that they wore only fixed up for the occasion and are not per-' manent, reflect great credit on the club. The committee deserve a word of praise for the completeness of the details, while Mr. QuickfaJl, the secretary, was indefatigable. Mr. J. Currie "manipulated the result board. Results i—--60yds Boys', Hi and under—Bailey 1, Massocks 2, Julian 3. Long dive.—Duffill 1, Patterson 2, Nicholls 3. | 25yds, boys 13 and under.—Evans 1, Winfield 2. A most exciting finish. 50yds Club Handicap.—Dewhirst (scr) 1, Gerohoefer (12sec) 2. Cigar and Umbrella Race.—Dewhirst 1 Girls' Eacc.-R. Curtis 1, G. Bennett 2, M. Curtis 3. Keenly contested. Mixed Dives.—Sutherland 1, Duffil 9 ' : Craddock 3. Several others started, and i the diving throughout was excellent Married Men's Race (Mr. Gudgeon's trophy).-Oaddoek (scr) 1, Patterson (4sec) 2. Only starters. Won easily. Egg and Spoon Race.—J. Hogg 1. This event caused much amusement. Dr. Hislop, on behalf of the Club, in thanking the public for their attendance,.' remarked on the promise shown by some' ot the swimmers, and also on the ex-'. cellence of the baths and water, which compared more than favorably with any ne had seen in his varied experience
