Following is the cabled report of "the High Commissioner under date London, January 7:
Quotations, unless otherwise spicilicd, are average prices on spot. Mutton.—-The market is quiet. Stocks of Xew Zealand mutton on hand arc light and firmly held in few hands. River Plate mutton is in large supply. Canterbury mutton 4Mid, North Island 4'/ 4 d, River Plate Australian 3%d. Lamb.—The market is weakening, with signs of decline. Large shipments are arriving, and buyers are cautious. Only few of this season's Xew Zealand lambs have been received, and have realised li'/|d. The price of Australian lamb is f%'l. . Beef.—The market is steady, and fair business doing. Xew Zealand hinds 3 l / 2 d, fores 2%d. Butter. There is better demand. The low price has induced speculative buying to hold in store. There are heavy supplies on hand. Colonial imports for December were 412,340 boxes against 215,704 last year. Buyers are cautious. Choicest New Zealand butter 100s, Australian 102s, Danish 114s, Argentine 104s. L-neese. —The market is firm, with more demand. White 555, colored sßs Od.
Hemp.—The market remains v4ry depressed. Moderate business 'has been done at the lowest price. Xew Zealand good fair on spot £2O, fair grade £2O, .Manila fair current £l9. Forward shipment Xew Zealand good fair £2O ss, fair grade £l9 15s, fair current Manila ill) 10s. The output from Manila for the week was 20,000 bales.
Cocksfoot seed—The market is steady, and holders firm, but buyers are not keen to do business. Bright clean New Zealand eoeksfoot seed, 171b per busISW, 745.
Wheat. —New Zealand long berried 33s (id per quarter of 496 lb, short berried 335. The anarket is quiet, but rather steadier.
Oats.—The market is quiet and small business doing except for best quality only. New Zealand short sparrowbills ISs (id per quarter of 384 lb, Danish 10s Cd per quarter of 320 lb.
Beans.—General and ' active demand and small supply, New Zealand (old crop) f.a.q. 35s per 504 lb. Peas.—The market is Arm, with more enquiry, New Zealand (partridge) per 504 lb, 40s.
Eggs.—Tbe market is weaker, with ft downward tendency, and supplies are likely to increase. Cold stored Russian 7s to ()s (id per 120, Italian 10s 3d to 14s Od, Danish 12* ml to 17s.
Poultry.—Oood demand for all descriptions. Chickens: American 8d to 0(1; Russian 7'/ s d to B'/ 3 d; ducklings, Od to 7d.
Wool.—The market is quiet and steady.
River Plate shipments received during December in London: Mutton 70,208, lainb 17;0!H; Liverpool, mutton 127,203, lamb 41,050; Hull, mutton 8001); Southampton, mutton 12,040, lamb 4510; Cardid', mutton 3705; Bristol, mutton 12,345; butter, Southampton and Liver- , pool 10,500 boxes.
LONDON REPORTS. Dalgety and Company, Ltd., have received the following cable from their London bouse under date January s: Mutton.—Prices are y„d higher, owing to small supplies Australian. Lamb.—%d to y.d per lb. lower, owing to heavy supplies. Demand continues good, but expect, if any changes takes place, it will be in favor of buyers. Beef.—Unchanged; quotations nominal.
Mr. Newton King yesterday received the following cable from his Sydney agent re hides: —Lights a farthing lower.
