Mr. Ivy Kidd has had to go into the hospital to undergo an operation. His many friends will be pleased to hear of his early Tcturn. Mr. Kendall, of New Plymouth, is relieving. Twopence a night sounds like the pay of a small boy in London, but it also applies to Waitara, where that sum is paid to the man who closes the private box lobby at the post office every night, inclusive of Sunday, on which day he also opens it in the morning. This is surely the'lowest scale of pay received by anyone in the Dominion. The time occupied each night must be at least half an hour.
