AMUSEMENTS.
VAhjDARES AND GARP.JSOXS' COMPANY. Speaking of the above company, who open at the Theatre Royal this evening, the Wellington Times says, inter alia:— "Though few in number, there is sufficient talent in the combination to enable them to pack a large parcel of fun and amusement into the two and a quarter hours they arc on the stage. The 'star' turn—the Valdares—is well worth the waiting. The four artists who comprise the troupe are intrepid cyclists, and appear to be able to ride anything in the bicycle line, whether it has one wheel or two. Their acrobatic feats are enterprising and thrilling, while the modicum of by-play introduced relieves the tenseness created by their daring. Much time on the stage is monopolised by Mr. Jules Garrison and his Roman Maids, but so pleasant was the period of their stay that the audience was genuinely sorry when the last was seen of them. As a reciter Mr. Garrison is seen at his best in military pieces, his elocution being most praiseworthy. Another artist who is well worth seeing is Rcggardio, wlrose juggling turn stamps him as an artist of more, than ordinary merit. The human billiard table net is undoubtedly one of the best, seen in Wellington. Sword-swallowing forms the feature of his second appearance. These are the outstanding features of the programme, other acceptable items being contributed by Miss Diamond Hart, soubrette and dancer; Jimmie Mulligan, Irish-American comedian; Miss Alice Herman and Miss Gertrude Hart. The box plan is now open at Collier's. No extra charge for booking.
