COAL STRIKE THREATENED
SIGNIFICANT ACTION BY MINERS' UNIONS. By Telegraph.-: Press Aeeooiatkm. ; . Auckland, Friday. The director of a coal company, interviewed with regard to the accumulation coal by large consumers against a possible colliery strike, said: "Trouble coming, and soon." Miners had got all they could through the Arbitration Court, and were now cancelling the registration of the unions with a view to shifting for themselves. Mr. Alison, managing director ot Devonport-Ferry Co., said he knew nothing definite about an impending strike, but it was significant that so many colliers' unions were cancelling their registration. His company had laid in 2000 tons emergecny supply. . Mr. Sample, presi4ent of the Miners' Federation( said he had no confidence ia arbitration. The unions were cancelling their registration to be free from responsibility and the court in the event of a strike taking place. The Hon. Mr. Millar said that per-! sonally he knew of no strike impending,! but with a view to preparing for an emergency the Railway Department was keeping in hand sixteen weeks' supply, representing 80,000' to 100,000 tons ol coal. Asked if he did not think the cancellation of registration significant, he said no doubt it was, but he was not prepared to discuss the matter.
