STRATFORD DAY BY DAY

(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Last Night. The installation of the W.M. and investiture of the officers of Lodge Hinernoa, Stratford, is' being held to-night. The skating carnival last night was very largely attended, some skaters coming from Hawera. The frost on Sunday is reported to have done considerable damage to the. early potato crops in this district, though from all. accounts it was not nearly as heavy in Stratford as in the country districts. Attention is being paid to some of the borough footpaths, and not before it was needed. Though gravel is being put on to flll up the holes, there is no indication that anything further is to be done. With the next heavy rain a certain proportion of the gravel will vanish down the water-channels to be swept into the nearest creek. It is reported that Mr. W. H. Young has purchased the three-quarter aero section at the corner of Portia street :i:id Regan streets from Mr. S. James. I understand that "the price was in the vicinity of £f>oo. Mr. E. Jackson, secretary of the Stratford A and P. Association, left by t'o mail train this morning for Palli ':ton. ''p butchery business of Messrs. Pott' • and Co. has been purchased by Messrs. Hume and Inston.
