By Cable.—-Pres. .WiH'iation.—C'onyrigbt Received August 26, 9.3© p.itl ( Sydney, Last Night, i The steamer Indrani had loaded coal 1 ready to depart from Newcastle when a fire was discovered in 7IK) tons of coal which were in the starboard bunker. During the day, despite large quantities of water poured in, the fire steadily gained, and now threatens to spread to the main, cargo. Much gas was generated and caused two explosions.
THE FIRE EXTINGUISHED. Received August 27, 12.30 a.m. Sydney, Last Night. The Indrani fire has ibeen put out. The damage is considerable. The full extent is unknown till an examination is made. The Indrani is unlucky. On her voyage from America '°he encountered terrific weather. Seas broke over her. flooding 'one of th" holds. She arrived in Melbourne in a battered condition.
