(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Druids' dance held in their hall "was not so well attended as those popular functions usually are. For all that, those who turned out were well compensated for their trouble, i as the evening was an ideal one for dancing. A social is to be held at Kaimata on the 26th inst. to commemorate the union of the two dairy companies, the Moa and Waitui. The hatchet has now been buried between these companies—it is to ibe hoped for their mutual benefit. Mr. It. J. Fre.win, who has sold his present premises, intends removing to the shop at present occupied by Mr. N. Greiner. A meeting of the Defeating Society held on Wednesday evening was very well attended, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. Mr. F. Spurdle occupied the chair. The subject for debate was "Is life worth living?" Mr. H. A. Stratford led in the affirmative and Mr. J. Currie in the negative. Other speakers were: Affirmative, Messrs Biernacki and Dewhirst. On a vote being taken the affirmative side prevailed toy 17 to 9. The programme for the next evening will be a debate on the subject, "Should capital punishment be abolished?'' Is is to be hoped that the meeting will again be well attended.
The ninth annual congregational meeting of the Presbyterian Church was held in° Knox Cliuroh on Tuesday evening, There was a large attendance. In the absence of jthe moderator, Mr. D. J. Albert took the chair. The report and balance sheet were read and adopted. The balance sheet showed a surplus of assets over liabilities of £6BO, while -the general account showed a small credit balance on the year's working. During the year the debt has 'been wiped off the "church and a new manse has 'been erected, for which purpose over £2OO was raised by subscription. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. Currie, and all the outgoing officers. A strong committee, who are vested with the right to either add to. their number or fill any gaps which may occur in their ranks, was then electad as follows:—Messrs Hood, Curtis, Young,, Taylor, Carrington, Johnston, Law, Currie, Roberts, Richardson, Peterson and Adams. After much discussion, it was resolved, when suitable men can be "procured, to form a kiric session of elders. The Sunday School report, which was highly satisfactory, was read and adopted. The meeting was concluded with the Doxology and Benediction. Supper, provided by the ladies, was then partaken of. A Primitive, Methodist social held on Tuesday evening was, thanks to the fine evening and the energy of a strong committee, a great success. Mr. C. C. Biernacki, who for some time has been employed in Mr. H. Thomson's office, has left the office in order to devote his attention to studying for the forthcoming exams. Mr. Cook succeeds Mr. Biernacki.
