It transpires that prior to leaving Sydney a number of passengers by the Maraiiia were robbed of clothing and cash to the extent of £55. A CONVICT'S PROTEST. Received June 16, 9 p.m. Fremantle, June 10. Tyler, an ex-corporal of police, who is undergoing a ten-years' sentence, secured an axe and climbed to the roof of the prison hospital, where he kept the staff of warders at bay for three hours, until the superintendent of the prison persuaded him to descend. Tyler's action is taken as a protest against what he considered an unjust sentence. BREACH OF PROMISE CASE. Received June 16, 9 p.m. Sydney, June 16. Miss Ezzy, plaintiff in a breach of promise case, was awarded £BOO damages. She claimed £IOOO. FOREST CONSERVATION. Sydney, June 16. In connection with the work of forest conservation, the Forest Department this winter will plant a million young trees, and expects to have four million trees available for next year. THE HARPER CARE. Melbourne. June 16. The remaining accused in the HarperRonald conspiracy case have been acquitted. James Paton, a witness, was imprisoned for fourteen days for prevarication.
