LAWN TENNIS.

THE DAVIS CUP. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Monday. The Management Committee ol the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association passed a resolution last night in reply to the criticism of the president of the Canterbury Association on the action of the committee in regard to Davis Cup matters. It joints out that the management committee is not a subcommittee of the New Zealand Association, but it is the executive body elected by and from the New Zealand committee, with administrative .power to transact all business, and to decide all matters pertaining to the New Zealand association except matters of policy, &nd the policy that determines location of the Davis Cup must be fixed by the I committee of management of that cup| which is the Australian council. That question has been decided by the Australasian Association, which has determined that the contest shall be held in Wellington, upon a recommendation from the committee of the New Zealand Association, based mainly upon the consideration of the place where the largest attendance can be obtained. The committee considered it was the propervbody to make a recommendation to the committee. In making a recommendation that Wellington should, from the fact of its geographical position, be the location of the contest, it believed by so doing it would afford the best opportunity to players and the public of the Dominion of witnessing the contest and sharing in the benefits which it hopes will result from the contest being held in New Zealand. The committee fully appreciated the valuable services rendered to the champion nation of Australasia by the New Zealand representative, A. F. Wilding, in Davis Cup contests, but notwithstanding the committee felt the interests of the competing nations and of all players and followers of sport in New Zealand was the first consideration,' and would be best served if the contest took place in the centre of New Zealand.
