STARTLING ALLEGATIONS. '•LIFE NOT SAFE." By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received April 12, 11.11 p.m. Sydney, Last Night. Some startling allegations have been made in a case in which a wharf laborer was charged with stealing cargo from the steamer Moldavia.

The accused indicated that there was a wholesale system of broaching cargo carried on, and he was compelled to take part or incur the enmity of his fellowworkers. He had left Melbourne to escape the practice, but found it just as rife in Sydney. He would not name the men implicated with him, as his life would not be safe.

A stevedore stated in evidence that broaching cargo ".vns a common practice, and a large nunuor of men were engaged in it, but thev stu"k to each other it was almost impossible to sheet home a conviction.
