THE TAURIKI INCIDENT. DECISION OF THE CONFERENCE JUDGES. Christchiirch, Last Night. The judges of the New Zealand Racing Conference (Sir George Cliflo.-J. Messrs T. \V. Stringer and John A. Cook) have given the following deeis'ion in the appeal by S. Darragh against the decision of the Auckland Metropolitan ■ Committee in disqualifying him for lif? , in connection 'with the x unning of tin , horse Tauriki at the Takapuna Jockey Club's winter meeting in l!)l>8, which decision varied a decision of the Taka- . [.una Jockey Club disqualifying Darragh during the pleasure, of the club:—"AV though .'ill the circumstances connected with the running- of the mare Tauriki I are execedignly suspicious, and Uie evidence most contradictory and unsatis'factovy, the judges are ?not satisfied that a ease of 'ringing in' has been established, and therefore leave this (mention open for further investigation by ithe Auckland Metropolitan (Hub, if fresh evidence should he forthcoming. Assuming, however, that the mare which ran at Avondalc. Takapuna and Ellers'lie under the name of Tauriki was th; chestnut mare by St. Crispin from u Freedom maro alleged to have been, lired bv 'S. Darragh, we are satisfied that though entered and raced in the name of .1. (ir-ant she never ceased to be the I roperty of S. Darrngh, and that she was-raced throughout in his interest and in violation of the rules of racing. Wc are also of opinion that both ,1. ' Grant and S. Darragh have wilfully supplied false information during the whole course of the enquiry. We therefore find that J. Grant and S. Darragh have been guilty of fraudulent practices' on the turf, and we hereby disqualify the said S. Darragh and the mare Tauriki for a term of five years from the 14th of May. 1000. As J. Grant has-not appealed against the disqualification imposed upon him toy the Metropolitan Committee, we direct the said committee to vary the disqualification of J. Grant so as to make it accord with that imposed hereby on S. Darragh. We confirm the decision of the Takapuna Jockey Club on the Metropolitan Oonmittec in regard to the payment of the 6takes in the races) won by Tauriki. We order the deposit in this case to be returned."
