Hartigan began to ' score fast, although he nearly lost his wicket when he had scored a single, Douglas missing him at second slip off Buckenham. The half century was compiled in 25 minutes.

Several changes were made in the bowling, but 100 went up in 45 minutes. Hartigan played excellent all-round cricket, making his half century in 38 minutes.

Carter played a sound innings.—One for 130.

MaeAlister and Ransford carried the total to 103, -when Hansford went.— Four for 138.

llacalister and Trumper became partnered. They were still together at the tea adjournment, the board showing four for 208. On resuming. MacAlister at 85 was howled by Douglas'. He batted for 185 minutes, his play being characterised by soundness and fine cutting. He hit a sixer and seven fourers.—'Five for 252. • Noble next stayed 33 minutes, the sixth wicket going for 355. Trumper went on to 150. when Reeves found a way in. During his 115 mimnes at the wicket Trumper gave no chances. He hit a s'ixer, n fiver, and 24 fourers. j Four thousand people. attended the match.
