FOOTBALL.

TARANAKI v. WELLINGTON. (From Our Reporter). Wellington, Last Night. Much interest is being evinced in to-" morrow's match. Local enthusiasts recognise that Wellington will be put on their metal, evidently being impressed with the achievements of Taranaki ac, Wanganui and Palmerston. Taranaki are in good fettle and should uphold the (Deputation of their province in the struggle. The team will consist of th? following:—Dixon, J. Stohr, C. Sheahan, Cameron, Beamish, Mynott (captain) Thurston, T. Sheahan, O'Sullivan, Crowley, Tamu, Smith, Young, Osborne and Cain.

The results of the match will be posted up at the "News" office as they come to hand. Monday's paper will contain a full account of the match, as well as of the other football matches played to-day.

The following will represent Old Boys against High School on the High School ground at 3 p.m. to-day (Saturday):— Dockrill, Osborne, A. Grant, Salway, I. Grant, Laing, Monk, Harle, Coker, Ok'ey McAllum, E. Day, N. Day and Baker. An interesting game should result, as ihe school team is 111 training, for the Xupier trip.- . Commenting on the Tnranaki-Mana-watu match, the Palmerston Standard says: "The second spell saw Taranaki'? rearguard in full bloom. At a meeting of the Auckland Rugby Union on Thursday night a letter was read from the secretary of a club affiliated with the Maniopoto Union, which disclosed a peculiar position. According to the letter, a match was played between the Mokauiti and Nckenekend clubs at Mokauiti on July 17, under rhe control of the Maniopoto Union The referee was elected by the Mokauiti Club, but that official had no whistle, and both teams agreed to play without a whistle.
