TARANAKI HOSPITAL BOARD.
The Hospital Board met yesterday. Present: Messrs. James Burgess, C. Andrews, ,1. Brown, ('. O'Sullivaii, D. H. McDonald, and ,1. 11. Hill. MKDICAL REPORT. The medical superintendent reported that during the past month 31 patiei.U were admitted to the hospital, 2a were discharged, 3 died, and there were now 411 remaining in Ihe institution. There were six operations. 01,1) l»i-;()Pi,l'.'S HUME. Mr. A. E. Farr.tr, manager of the Old I'c.ipl.V home, reported for the mouth. There were three admissions, two nieii and a woman. Two males had. left the home, one of them being a llartcra man se.nt iu during the uionlli, and whom J)r. Walker considered was not a lit patient for the Home. Two males had died, one aged !I2 vears and (lie other li.-) years. The general health of he inmates' was good,, and discipline had
been good, with the exception of two men who had been dealt with by the chairman. The number of inmates remaining was 3-. being 27 males and 5 females. The resignation of -Mr. A. K .la.-kson. assistant at the Home, was rcrcivd. The chairman said the assistant was resigning, not because he was dissalistied.'il.ul because of the oiler of a bett-r position elsewhere, lie had been an excellent ollici,il.--The resignation was accepted, and the! chairman was authorised to give him a " reference." MAORI PROBATIONER NURSE. The secretary reported that he hid written, to the inspector-General stating that the Board could find a vacanvy for one of the Maori probationer nurses if the Board was paid .v.211 for the fir-t year's training, ,C 25 for the second, and 't'3o for the third year, urging that as the probationer would, at the end of her term in the hospital, be certain In leave the institution, the Hoard sliouiil receive some compensation for the ex-
pense and trouble incurred in her training. In replv Dr. Valiiitine informed t'.w Board that the Educaiiou Department allowed for the probationers £lll for the first year and Co for the second. This was not as much as the Board was asking, but he hoped, notwithstanding, that Ihe Board would see its way to take one of the probationers. It would undoubtedly be a good thing for Hie district if one could be persuaded to settle in one of the larger native settlements in Taranaki.
It was decided to receive the probationer on these terms. GENERAL.
Upon the recommendation of the medical ollioor it mis decided to grunt throe months' leave of absence to Jlr. A. E. Farrar, manager of tin' Home. The Treasury reported that .181 2s M had been paid'to the Board's credit, being the cost of the construction of the, "D.T." coll and contingent expenses. The salary of the assistant gardener, whose duties had recently been increased, was raised 'by live shillings a 11 was decided .to erect a corrugated iron' fence between the Board's cottages in Barrett street and Jlr. 'Webster's property. Accounts amounting to ,CG!>B \'h 71 were passed for payment.
