Thu award of the Compensation Cou't iu connection With the compulsory inquisition of the Culverden estate by the Government for the purposes of closer settlement was given this afternoon. I The members of the Court were Mi". J Justice Denniston (president) and Messrs. J. Bennie and D. D. Mac Far (assessors), representing the Government and owners respectively. Mr. Stringer, with him Mr. Russell, appeared for the claimants, and Mr. D. M. Hudlay, with him Mr. t'assidy, lor the Drown. The owners claimed £lO2,

as compensation for the acquisition oi the estate. The president stated tint tUs award had been arrived at by a ma jority of the Court, and the award was to include all subjects ot the claim in a lump sum. It wa s understood thu two amounts included in the memorandum from both parties (£382 5s and £IOB las) lor adjusting mort* ■ages were accepted by the mortgagee as settling any claim against the Crown, and the Crown was freed from any liability on that aeoount. The award also included costs. The award aonteined a declaration as to the landtax contained in the second paragraph of the memorandum. The Court awarded to the claimants the sum of £119,4b0, and fixed the assessors' fees at £lO (H for the four days. The award would bu drawn up by the Crown.
