PERSONAL.
Dr. Redman, Mayor of Picton, and Mrs. Redman are spending a few days in New Plymouth. The Rev. A. Harding, who has for the past four months or so been in charge of the Queen street Primitive Methodist Church, leaves to-night for Auckland, en route to the Thames, to whioh distriot lie has been transferred. Whilst in New Plymouth Mr. and Mrs. Harding have miade very many friends, and have been indefatigable in Church work. Sir Joseph Ward was a passenger by last night's mail train from Wellington, and proceeded north by the Rarawa. To-day h e attends the Maori regatta at Ngaruawahia, and will interview the Maori Land Commission : (Sir Robert Stout and Mr. A. Ngala, M.P.) Subse-1 quently he will accompany bis Excellency the Governor, who also went north last night, to the Maori meeting at Waharoa to consider the drawing up of a petition to the King regarding Maori rights. Sir Joseph stated he would spend a little over a week in the north, transacting business in the Main Trunk district, where he will receive deputations in Mr. Jennings' district respecting the terminus of the StratfordOngaruhe line and other matters. Returning to Wellington in about ten days, Sir Joseph Ward will go south to Central Otago in connection with the Government's giant irrigation scheme in that province. He will give an address in New Plymouth later on, and will spend about a fortnight in the locality, visiting various places, and will probably traverse the Taumarunni electorate, and the route of the East railway.
