Air. and Mrs. Alonkhouse and family, of Stratford, have booked passages for Loudon by the Faparoa, which leaves Wellington on 13th February. .Mr. J. C. Leg" returned oil Thursday from a live weeks' holiday tin, the bulk of that time having been spent; in Adelaide and the Yorkc Peninsula, lie was staying there with one of the big w heat-grow elo, and had an opportunity of seeing one of the new and wonderful reapers at work. 'This machine, he says, reaps the growing crop, winnows it, and bags up the wheat. South Australia is very prosperous at j the present time The crop had not promised well, but rain came opportunely, and Idled out the ears, so that instead of the expected shortage, there should be a surplus of about 14,000,UU0 bushels. This had, he thought, a good deal to do with the recent decline in wheat values, in one week, whilst he was there, the' price of wheat fell from os to 4s til a biisliel. Victoria, however, would probably grow only enough wheat for home consumption.
