The Daily News. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8. A DISGRACEFUL BOUNDARY-ROAD.

At tlie meeting of the llorough I Council no further mention was made | concerning the proposed formation of: the important boundary-road which ,-,cpa* rates the west end of the borough Irom j a portion of the Jiarrelt Road Board■ district. For some months past a portion of this road—the Cutlield-l'oad—-has been closed, temporarily, no doubt, but it is still closed. We understand i thai the statutory time allowed for such j doling has expired. This being so, some | deiinite course of action should at once be adopted ami followed, so thilt the existing muddle may give place to something more worthy of the name of a boundary-ro id ami more creditable to the locai bodies concerned. Prior to the creation of the exiting specimen of ail idle attempt at road-formation there wa* rvOinething in the nature of a trailicable road which in a measure answered purposes, and, moreover, over, though of a somewhat steep and irregular grade, was found convenient by n the tradespeople for the delivery from vehicles of goods to their customers thereabouts, whereas now these rr<)mla are delivered at great inconvenience and much loss of time, by reason of a circuitous route hatfng to be used. This in itself is manifestly an injustice to the tradespeople and tlie ratepayers of those parts. Why a change is not lirought about it is difficult to conceive. The only essential factors necessary to this end' are the adoption of a decided and prompt course of action on the part of the local bodies involved, and the expenditure of a small Mini of money proportionately shared by each body. The subsequent letting of a contract and the execution of it ace simple matters, and would follow as a Matter of course. Without laboring the subject, we would urge the Council, us tlie senior of the responsible governing bodies, to take this matter in hand in a businesslike way and resolve at its next meeting upon making a creditable work of the present apology tor a road.
