THE DAIRY INDUSTRY.
A large aftd representative meeting of dairy factory delegates was held in iiio Stratford Borough Council Chambers on Thursday (says the Post) to consider
the agreement between the Taranxki Dairy Industrial Union and the Em- | ployees' Union. Mr R. Dingle occupied the chair. After about an hour's discussion the agreement was ratified, to Mce effect on the Ist of August, to Inet for 12 months, and the seal of the union was ordered to be affixed.
At the conclusion of business in coanection with the agreoment, Mr ,T. W. Foreman proposed the foUowintt resolution: "That this meeting of dairy factory delegates view with grave concern the proposed alter.nHon in the Customs tarill, whereby a duty will bo imposed on parchment; paper and that on separators and other dairy machinery largely increased. In our opinion the proposed alterations are Inadvisilile and will tend to retard the progress and development of our industry, which is probably the most valuable one in the colony. As dairymen in New Zealand, on account of their geographical portion, are placed at a disadvantage wil;b other countries whose products thp.y have to compete with on the English market, we urge the Government to reconsider the question of dairy requisites and machinery with the view of allowing the duty on them to remain as at present." The resolution was seconded by Mr |,r. ITnll and carried unanimously. Copies |of the resolution will be forwirded to I Taranaki repr"sentotivos in Parliament.!
