Di'NEMji, .November 29. As the result of the conference between Sir J. G. Ward and James Mills, managing director of the Union Co., it has been decided that one of the ijompiiiiy's steamers shall leave Wellington on Friday once in three weeks, to connect with the mail steamer at { Sydney, thus giving an alternate mail I connection at regular intervals. This will start next week, the Wamiuoo leaving Uuuediu a day earlier, so as to leave [Welhngi on on Friday. Interviewed by a "Daily Times" representative, the Premier said with respect to tho irregular running of the 'Frisco boats, that notice had been given by '.he New Zealand Government that there nould be no renewal of the contract under existing conditions. All reasonable consideration had been extended on account of dislocation by the Frisco disaster, but before entering into any permanent contract the Government required an assurance that the steamers would be able to fulfil , time-table obligations with more exacli : I tide than had been the case recently.
