RAILWAY DEVIATION.
The cutting from the town station end of the New Plymouth railway de- ' viation has now reached Eliot street, ; and the big gang, with loco' and [ trucks, has been shifted to the Henui 1 end where they will recommence the ' lowering of the way near I'aynior's lano, running the spoil down to the Strandon estate. Here a big temporary way is costructed, at a height o£ about'3oft from the natural levol ( to facilitate tipping tho spoil, which will form a huge embankment leading to the Honui railway bridge now in course of construction. Owing to the want of a good foundation for concrete, the bridge will be constructed on piles, which are now being driven to a depth .of about 30ft in the bed of the stream. A traction engine provides tho power for operating' the ii ton "monkey" or piledriver. The spoil from the Hobson street cutting has almost formed the way across to Autere street, and thousands of yards are still to be moved at this point.
