ADELAIDE CUSTOMS FRAUDS. Adelaide, October y. The hearing of a charge of conspiracy against Tucker, in connection with alleged Customs frauds, has commenced. Sir John Downer, in outlining the prosecution, stated that the frauds had been carried out by means of Customs stamps, obtained by fa'seiv representing that a Customs officer had. lost his, and they wanted replac* ing. During the progress of the frauds the Martin C< mpany paid .isg.ooo into the account ot Tucker as their authorised agent, whereof £y)O'.u had not reached the Customs Department. A DANGEROUS LUNATIC. London, October 8. While a lady was at the confessional in Brompton Oratory she directed die attention of a priest to an excited woman in the Church brandishing a dagger towards him. The priest leaped from the confessional box and ilia woman tried to stab him. Help was forthcoming, and she was removed to an asylum. CONTRABAND. Capetown, October 8. A man named Englebrecht was fined ,£2OO or imprisonment for a year for introducing ammunition into Baiutoland. NEGROES LYNCHED New York, October S. Two hundred marked men near Mobile seized two negroes in ihc Sheriff's custody, who were charged with assaulting a white woman, and hanged them.
