WELLINGTON NOTES. [By " MoTviiOA."] Delaware in charge of Mason. It^;: T Vc|)orleil his mission iuay>lic the TVelliugton Cup. Auratus has gone wrong, and will not be seen out at the meeting. H. Cutts was expected ou Wednesday from tlie Soutli with four of Sir George .Clifford's team. The Hon J. D. Oruiond will probably have five or six horses to represent liim. Ropa, Martian, Pulty, Nightfall, Delaware and Defoe all did pleasing work on Monday. Martian is Htated to lie showing great improvement, and bears a solid appearance. Geologist left for Wellington by t.'aiu yesterday morning, under the i-bargeof B. Kussel!.
AnUmius (by Sir Foote) is regarded as the smartest two-yoar-old m New tjouth W ales. How rapidly a stud horse can deteriorate in value even in the face of a good record is well exemplified in the case of the English-bred sire, Seaton Delaval (writes ' Phaeton' in "New Zealand Herald). When the son of Melton went iuto the auctioneer's Lands at Uje dispersal of the Sylvia Park Stud some twu years back the eompetion for his possession was of so ]jecn a character that the bidding went up to ISOOgs, at which price he was bought by the Wellington Park Stud Company. The bay horse looked remarkably well when submitted to auction on Saturday last; but only one bid was extracted, aud that was liuilgs less than he was bought for two years back. Seaton Delaval must be regarded as dirt cheap at 500gs.
