The Orphan Home, Panned, Auckland. APPEAL. The disastrous fire that occurred at the Orphan Homo, Parndl, Auckland oa Sunday, September 17, will b fresh in the minds of the readers o this paper. This appeal is intended to make plain the extent of the loss, its effect upon the present condition ol the children, and the urgent necessit for Fund* to provide adequately an wisely for their future welfare^ Children from the districts wher this paper circulates have from tiin lo time been cared for in the Home which has, therefore, a particular a well as a general claim upon you sympathies. 1.-THE LOSS.

Thw two Main Dormitories are ab ■olutely destroyed, that is, the sleeping accommodation of over 70 children, la addition, the Matron's Quarters, Stall Diningroom, Sowing room, Seamstress'' Bedroom and Ho* pital are totally destroyed, and, besides this, a considerable quantity of Clothing and Furniture has been lost What this means to the children an to the matron and her staff can hardly be conveyed by mere words. 3.—NEW BUILDINGS. The matter of providing New Build ings has been receiving tho carcfu consideration of the Board, as ap pears by the last two annual re ports, and a New Buildings Fun has been created. In providing permanent accommod ation, the safety of the children is consideration of paramount import anc«, and this can only be secured i Buildings of Stone or Brick. 8.-THE COST. Of such Buildings on modern lines i roughly estimated at from £SOOO t £7OOO, in addition to which it ma be necessary to purchase land. t.-THE FINANCIAL POSITION.

Tha income from the Board's En dowmcnts is fully absorbed in main faming the 89 children in the Homo The numbers hare increased sir.** 31st March, 1905, by 98,' and forth current year, owing to such increase the Board anticipates a debit balanc of expenditure over receipts. Thi will, of course, be increased by th expenses inevitably attendant upo the fire. ..To take any considerabl sum from the Capital for buildin purposes would very seriously hanip ir the work of the Home, and preju dice tho well-being of the children. THE APPEAL OF THE CIIILDREI For the sake of the good work done in past years, for the sake o tho larger work to be done now an in the yoars lo come, and above all in tho name of Christ, for the sak of His little cues, wo appeal for help. I am assured that theOrphi Home Board will take all wants in to consideration in their plans f 0 tha future. M. R. AUCKLAND. September 22, 1905

The insurance on the Building des troyed is £1250. Amount available is £2360. Rough estimate of amount stil required for Building i.s £464 The Home has not received any Government subsidy for the lasfll twenty years.
