THE LOCAL OPTION POLL.

A NOVEL POINT RAISED. perlpeess association. Invebcabqill, December 28. A petition is in circulation praying for an inquiry re the Invercargill local option poll. It alleges that there were irregularities which tended to defeat the fairness of the poll. The question as to whether inralid votes cast for the Parliamentary election should affect the local option votes of the same persons is being discussed. It is said that members of a religious body made their electoral votes informal on principle, and, if so, these were lost to the local optipn count, and the Continuance party therefore hold that the figures used as a basis of calculating for local option were not all the voters whose votes were recorded.
