Russell, founder,of the School of Engineering, Sydney, University, (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 11. The death is announced of William Miller, a very old Identity, aged 80. Deceased wa« formerly gaoler at Napier.

| AUCKLAND, July 11. The death of Father Benedict occurred this afternoon,, after a brief illness. Bishop Lcnihan was with his friend, who was unconscious during the day, in his last moments. Father Benedict was 61 years of age. About 1901 he came out from England on five years' leave of absence for the benefit of his health, and was attached by Bishop Lenihan to this diocese, in which he has devoted himself to holding missions and | retreats for clergy and laymen, .
