Lhe wool sales opened with prices slightly irregular, but no material alteration of last year's closing rates was noticeable. Greasy sold up to 12d, and scoureds to 18Jd per lb. INVERCARGILL, Jan. 9. > At the wool sales to-day crossbred hogget clips brought to 12jd, and 12{d for ewe. Compared with test year's prices crossbred super was worth 3d to 4d mort(. medium Id to 2Jdp inferior 2Jid to 3d, halfbred good td to Id, and half-bred medium 1 Jfi to 2. Lincoln ewe brought Wjd anid hogget 9i}d, as against 6»d last year; bellies 3Jd to 4jtq. piecesi 4jd to sd. The sale .went with great spirit, and some vendors, confident of obtaining ev#n Jietter values, withdrew their lots. HOMEBUSH STOCK MARKET. SYDNEY, Jan. 9. Sheep.—Unchanged. WELLINGTON, Jan. 9. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following _£ablegram from the Agent-Gen-eral, dated London, Bth inst. : The frozen meat market is very dull, aind quotations show a weaker tendency. Butter continues in active demand, the market being firm, with a hardening tendency. The average price of choicest New Zealand butter to'day is "100s. - The cheese market is active and advancing, the average price of finest New Zealand being 525. The hemp market is very quiet at about last week's price. There has been no alteration in the cocksfoot seed market since last week. Importations of River Plate mutton for the month of Decenfccr were London 65,863, Liverpool 129,343, Hull 6223, Cardiff 4523, Newcastle 11,243, Plymouth 837. Lamb—London 4634, Liverpool 6831. Butter—--10,037 cwt. was distributed over London, Liverpool, Hull and South- ' ainpton. f
