A Policeman's Lot, Etc.
DUNEDIN I'.C. MEETS A CYCLIST, THOUGHT IT WAS A CYCLONE. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, August 2. A case came before the Police Court to-day in which a young ninn was charged with assaulting a constable. The evidence showed that the accused was riding on a footpath when the constable, who was practically in plain clothes, attempted to stop 'him. The cyclist gave the constable a bad thrashing, including a broken nose. Jlr C. C. S.M., in dismissing the case said that if the accused had committed an assault it was not more than what might have been expected. The constable had done an unwarranted and dangerous thing in attempting to arrest a man riding past on a bicycle, and he scarcely thought ho could be acting by the instructions of his superior officer.
