His Excellency the Governor has consented to act as patron of the New Vlymouth exhibition. Hon. R, Butler becomes Treasurer and Minister for Lands in the new South Australian Ministry. Th» Federal Exocutivo has appointed Earl Jersey as the Commonwealth representative on the Pacific Cable Board. The Stratford I'ost reports lhat Mr Joseph Mackay, Stratford County Chairman, is at present suffering from indisposition. Mr H. A, Lennox, secretary of the New Plymouth exhibition und carnival, returned from Wellington by last night's express. The London Times statos that Lord Curzon (Viceroy of India) will 1)0 Installed Warden of the Cinque ports at Wulnior, The Governor leaves Wellington by the express train on the morning of tho 14th hist., for the purpose of paying his first official visit to Auckland. Ho will return In about a week.
Mr J, Ross, formerly in tho post and telegraph department here, and now of tho Hotorua post office staff, is spending a few days at New Plymouth.
Messrs Daucliope aiwl Wobster have just completed the negotiations to enter into partnership for the conduct of Mr Bauchope's business, the new firm to spring into existence on August Ist next.
Three Ministers tho Crown, Sir .Joseph Ward, Hon. T. y. Duncan. Minister for Lands, and Hon. C. 1L Mills, Minister for Customs, have consented to net as vice-presidents to the New Plymouth exhibition committee, which opens on Boxing Day of this year. Mr A. E. Copping, of Tho Tress literary staff, who leaves shortly to assume the position of editor of the Stratford Evening Post, was on Friday afternoon tho recipient of a presentation from the literary staffs of The Press, Truth, and Referee. The presentation, which consisted of a travelling "bag and umbrella, was made by Mr Danvers Humber, editor of the Referee, who referred to the good feeling which had existed her tween the members of tho literary staffs and Mr Copping, and wished him every success in his new position. Representatives of Tho Press sub-editorial mid reporting stalls apoke highly o[ Mr Copping as a. colleague and expressed regret that ho was severing his connection with the office. Mr Copping suitably acknowledged the gift.
