The authorities an powerless to check them. In official and revolutionary circles at Sofia it is feared the condition of Macedonia will precipitate a conflict between Turkey and Bulgaria. Count Zinovieff, Russian, and Count Ton Riebsrstein, German Ambassadois to Turkey, have recommended greater energy against the insurgents and the appoin'ment of a capable commander entrusted with the full direction of operations. It is not stated whether the Albanians or Bulgarians were the assailants. Adrioes from Sofia state that the Turks plundered and burned Volkoder and Pokarnik, southwards of Beseu, and attacked S ilovo, northwards of Italkotirnovo, expelling th'e insurgents.
