FIRES.

An alarm of fire was given about midday on Monday and bad the effect of crowding the streets with Vehicles and pedestrians anxious to know the cause of the trouble. The outbreak was in a cottage in Gilbert-street owned by Mr Henry Ford and occupied by Mr Hugh Wilson, cabinet-maker. When the Fire Brigade arrived, which it did in astonishingly short time, the fire had obtained a fair hold in the kitohen but the flames were soon subdued. The fi> e was probably caused thtough a defective range. M'S Wilfon who was confined late on Friday night, had to be rmnoved to a neighbours (Mrs Pe!lew's). The house was insured in the Phoenix Office for .£125 and outbuildings for £SO in same office. The damage caused by the fire was comparatively slight.
