PUNIHO.
(From oub Own Corhespokdent.) It might interest your readers to know that the new native school lately erected by the Government at Puniho, between Stony River and Parihaka, for the education of na'ive children, was opened to-day without ceremony. The attendance was fairly good of both European and native children. Tbe school was built for the benefit of the natives, but settlers children will be; admitted if space will allow. It is the general opinion that very soon the building will prove to be too small, as tha settlement around Puniho is making great progress. The Puniho road, from the Main South-road to the forest line, or Oarrington-road (abcut 9 miles), is being met* lied at present. The land is nearly all taken up both sides of the road and no doubt there will be a great quantity of milk produced on this land. Mr W. Bonnie has opened a small bu'.ter factory about two miles np from the South-road, and Green way Bros, have their new dairy of be.ween 60 and 70 cows in full swing, and from the number of milk cans in their dray there must, be plenty of grass. Tney sapply the Crown Diiry Company's creamery at Puniho—it will soon have to be enlarged as the supply of milk is increasing very fast every eeoson. April 15th, 1903.
