Interesting reading matter will be found on pipe four of this issue. The Borough Council meets this evening. Mr Kinsella has been offered the position of principal dairy expert in the Transvaal. On the lot May, Mr Seddon will have completed his 10th year as Premier. Thi Governor has fixed Smpire Day (May 25th,) as ihe date for laying tbe foundation stone of the Veterans Home. After the ceremony, the Governor will entertain the veteram at Government House. Owing to the showery weather on Monday afternoon the projected m itch between the Palmerston North and New Plymouth bowlers did not come rff, greatly to the disappointment of both teams, as well as of those who anticipated the pleasure of witnessing the play. In the journal of the Department for Jjibour lor April, the following apnesrs in reference to New Plymouthßuilding trades: Tradesmen busy ; engineering trade, much the same as last month; boot trade, slight falling off in trade gf.nerally ; retail trade (general), fair business doing; unskilled laboir, no applications, and local men fully employed. A feature of the labour market report fot April is the business of the building trade j throughout the colony, sawmillers, sash and door manufacturers, builders, and all others connected with the erection of buildings being reported as working full time. The only exception is Wanganui, where it is reported, ' there has be»n a considerable f-illing off of work for all classes . f tradesmen, A number of carpenters and bricklayers are out of regular employment; engineers, however, are working full time.
