INGLEWOOD MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

Considerable interest was taken in the elections at Ing'ewood for the position of first Mayor of the Town and members of the first Borough Council, The poll took place on Wednesday under the control of Mr Robert Ellis, who proved an iffioicnt and obliging returning officer. For the position of Mayor th?re wen-, twocandidates Mrß. H. ijicholls (chairman of the expiring Town Boird)and Mr Henry Brown. It was expected that 'he struggle would be a keen one, bo'h being exceptionally popular, and it was expacted that Mr Brown would gat in although many thought he had been ill aivissd to contest the position when there was a s'rong desire to give the sitting chairman of the Town Board the honor of being first mayor. Tho j result of the voting was: Mr B, H. Nicholls 204; Mr Brown 185, with oDly oae inform il vot 1 , Mr Nicholls being elected by a majority of 19, For Councillors there were no less than oLven candidates nomina'ed and the election was run on much the same lines n8 for the mayoral chair, the contest being very keen. The result.of the pol ing was as fol lows:-G. W. Bennett, 271; H. B. Curtis, "211; A. E. Nicholls, 199; F. H. Brown, 192; H. W. Tarplee, 174; E. K. A. Haworth, 168; George Haset% 162; E Hops, 113; H. W. L Hording, 109; 0. K. Western, 94. The first sis were elected.

There were 15 informal votes, bu-, ■as will be seen, they could not have had •my £• fleet on the result of the election. The contest was the most excting ever seen in Inglewoad, and was good humoured throughout.
