An interesting test of the targets was made this afternoon when Colonel* Sommerville, '"oilius and Owen, with R fleman Williams of Taradale and the Press representa'ives went across the range to tist the tffect of the 303 bul let upon the steel targets designed for the taams match. The targets are of | inch steel and 12-inch square and are placed upon a small mound. The idea of tha test was to find out whether the impact of the bullet would overturn the targe*. Targets having been i plaeed in position, the marksmen retired to 100 yards, where shooting was I commenced. Williams and Collins were the first down and at the firs'shot from each rifla two targets fell, i Collins quickly dropped his otber target, but Williams although he hit hi-i, only succeeded in turning it cornerwise and it waß not till after two other shots had been fired that he suoceedtd in overturning the targ t. It was found on examination that the bulled had drilled holes as cleanly thro agh the target as though a punching machine had been at woik. The targets were again set up, this time two of them being p'aced together, thus presenting a thickness of half an inch of ste?l to the bullet. Colonel Own and the Press represent itive* th n took a hand and ag-iin the targets were overturned the double plate being drilled almost as completely as was thn single one.
