DETAILS. PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, June 16. The Mawhera was engaged on her Usual cruise picking up a cargo for '•Tahiti. Late at night ah* ran on a reef at Opataki. The accident; wag attributed 'o currents between the islands which, it is stated, aie of a mo?t unreliable character. It is also stated the charts are wron«r, as there bus b m no proper survey for ysarc. Capta'n Winchester, who bad many y-ats ex perience in.the Society Group, says th» island wh«TO the Mawhera was •••r cked is six or seven mile* out on the chart. The captain and crew are expected to return on the next trip of the Taviuni. Dcnedin, Ju e 16. The Mawhera was valued at about i £7OOO. Hhe was uninsured. It is intended to auction ihe wr«ck uni l salvage. Willingtos, June 16. The Mawhera was wrecked la-.e at night, which was exceptionally dark. She was struck by a ha*vy t quail, and driven en to the reef. Boa s were J lowered, and tha officer* and crew got i over the reef, entered the l-.goon, and ' landed on the ifclmd-without further i incident. The purser, wKo brought the news to Tahiti, atat-.s th-»t when he left the ettamer, she was full of water, and the cargo was being washed out of the holes in the hull. The funnel was i gone.
