Mr Bbodes, he says, aspired to create a great society, copied in regard to its organisation from the Jesuits, and with a view to securing this he left vast bequests to be applied to the realisation of his train ideal of race unity and the ultima e federation of England and America, h curing the government of the world in peace for nil eternity. Meanwhile hi recommends that free t?ade be fought for if necefssry by the British. Retaliatory tariffs were destined to convert its present economic opponents, including the Americans, into friends. His documents are idealistic beyond comprehension. An "impressive service was held at St. Paul's on the occasion of Mr Bbodes' funeral. The King ard Prince of Wales were represented, and a vas f congregation attended, including the Lord Mayor and Agen's-Geccral. THE FINAL SCENE. Received 11,11.18 p.n . Cape Town, Ap>i : 11. There was a picturesque pi occasion through the hiFs and gorges of the Matoppos Bange. Mr Rhodes' grave was cut in th« rock on the summit of a frteep kopje Twelve oxen finally drew the coffin tc the grave-side. The Biohop of Mashoralnnd conse crated the grave acd officiated at th< burial service. A thousand whites arid 2000 nativti witnessed the obsequies.
