CAPTURE OF THE ESCAPED PRISONER.
I Aided by the settlers, the police kept ; a sharp look out for Mac Donald, and lon Friday, hearing that he had been [seen on the Newall-road, an active search was instituted, resulting in the [escaped prisoner beicg captured in a gravel pit near Pungarehu. A youth named Binnie had given Constable Lind and Mr. T. Julian information of the man's whereabouts. McDonald surrendered without any troub'e and after beiog taken toPungurehu was brought into town. He was weaving a dark suit when captured, and probably the same as was missed by Mr. Hughson from his store.
According to the statement made by the prisoner he ran into the scirub on escaping from the gaol and lay low, one of his pursutrs parsing so close that he could have touched him.
j On arrival iu town he was brought before Mr. JK. Cock, J.P., and remanded Still Wednesday.
