At night two miners descended and made a brave attempt to roach the men, wading up to thair necks in ice-1 cold water, but they were driven back.' | It transpires that Simpson, senr.,, spent balf-an-hour trying to induce his son to escape with him, and finding escape by diviog uuder the pipes less difficult than be expected he dived b ck and again urgad his son to accompany him. Young Simpson and Kii:g were then praying and singing. His sob asked him not to leave them, but they refused to attempt the danger of escaping. Received 22, 1.18 a.m.
I _ Melbourne, March 21. Simpson and King were weak from want of food, and suffered considerably from being cramped up in the end of the drive where they took refuge, and from the foul air. Otherwise they are not much thw worse for their 48 h >urs' imprisonment. Tkey had esndl.s, the light from which helped to keep up their spirits. Simpson, sifter a short rest, returned to assist iu finding his still missing comrades.
