Last evening Henry Stowell, Maori interpreter, was waited on by the noncommissioned officers and asked to supply a suitable native war cry for the ; Contingent. Eventually he suggested the words " E Tama reia (charge lads,") which was accepted as the battle cry for the Ninth. THIS GOVERNOR'S FAREWELL ADDRESS. Duneton, March 8. The Governor inspected the South Island section of the Ninth Contingent to-day, the Premier and Mayor beiag present. In addressing the men, be said the utmost pat t of his Majesty's dominions freely and of its own accord come forward, with no niggard h*nd, to take a share of the harden entailed in protecting and upholding our grand Empire. It could not now be long 7 before tfcms of peace must be arranged, and those terms could only be such as would lead to permanent peace.
