Pollen, lately Chief , Draughtsman in tbe local office of the j Linds and Survey Department, and who has been transferred to Auckland, whs on Thursday afternoon presented > by the staff here with a gold albert, acid watcb, as a memento of the esteem j and legard io which he was held by them. Mr Mackenzie, tbe Commissioner, ' made' the presentation, 'and in doing • so voiced the feelings of the staff in that they held Mr Pollen in very high regard both in his official and private capacity, and concluded by wishing him every success in his new sphere; and expressing a conviction that it was a step to higher promotion. Mr Pollen suitably and happily replied, saying that in leaving, he was being severed from those who had al' ways worked harmoniously with him, and he would look with pleasure on his Taranaki connections. " After the singing of " For he's a jolly good fellow," and with three cheers for Mr Pollen, and one for Mrs Pollen, the pleasing little ceremony ended.
