VOLUNTEER NEWS.
At the camp last night there was a short parade, after which Lieutenant Cook delivered a lecture on "outpost work." This evening, if the weather is favourable, practical instruction in the duties of this important branch of military work will be given, There was a large attendance of the public at the camp, when the ooncert organised by members of tbe corps was givfn, The items were all received with marked favour and were greatly appreciated. Tbe programme included the following: - Instrumental quartet, " Spring," by Band-Sergeant Newell, Band-Corporal Donovan, Bandsmen Oolthard and Pickford ; trombone solo, Bandsman Sly; song, Oolour-Sergeant MacD'armid; song, Mr W. Perry cored) ; cornet solo, Bandstrjan sing, Sergeant Smith 2 song, Sergeant Mills (encored); soog, Bandsman Reed; song, Mr J. Jury; song, Sergeant j Armitage; song, Mr G. McOomish (encored) ; song, Mr W. Pelrry. The accompaniments were played by Misses Kent and Perry, and Messrs Perry and Golding. Co'our-Sargeant MacDiarmid, on behalf of the non commissioned officers and mrn, thanked those present for turning out in such numbers. Mr W, H. Skinner then called fur three cheers for the volunteers, which were given very heartily. Tbe singing of the National 4nthem brought the proceedings to a close. At the inquest on young Crawford, who was ehot at tha Manchester Rifles ramp "at Feilding, a verdict of accidental death was returned.
