FARMERS' UNION.
FEB PBKSS ASSOCIATION. ChristoHubch, January 10. At the Farmers' Union this afternoon it was resolved to take steps to hold a conference of local bodies ta consider the small birds nuisince. Mr Lamhie said (tut in consequence of the rise in wages due to Tridfs Unions, farmers' employees were flocking to the towns. He moved that this exeoutive of North Canterbury Farmers' Union recommends tbe Colonial Cmncil to take every possible means of urging the claims of agricultural workers on the various branches of the Union with' a view of having tHeir wages incresed and their hours of labour shortened, to as to be more on an (quality with town workers. The motion was cvrriod. Some discussion took pface as to tne advisableness of the Union undertaking the insurance of fire risks of its members, but the general opinion was that it was dfsirable first to ascertain what concessions existing companies were prepared to make, it was resolvedjto recommend 'he Minister for Agriculture to enforcß the Small Bird* Nuisance Act, 1891, in all town districts as well as Borough and Road Board districts.
